Let’s Get Gay: LBGT Pride Celebration, San Francisco

Get out your glitter and metallic skintight rainbow spandex; it’s the annual San Francisco Gay Pride celebration! Interested in finding something…colorful to do this weekend? Beginning Saturday, June 28th at 12:00 p.m., thousands will gather for the LGBT Pride Celebration, taking place at the heart of the San Francisco Civic Center Plaza. With countless musical performers, costumes, and of course a parade, the 2014 pride theme is “Color Our World With Pride.”

Based on the San Francisco Chronicle feature, “Are You A Pride Veteran or Virgin?” here are a few dressing tips for beginners from pride experts, Tony Bravo and Carolyne Zinko.

If you think wearing a funny hat or wig will make you stand out at the festival, think again. NOTHING…I repeat…nothing will make you stand out. Not even going completely and utterly stark naked. So gear up with all the goofy, fabulous fashionable (and unfashionable) attire you can find. And don’t forget a smile!

I know they’re freaking awesome, but do yourself a favor and put away though 6-inch stiletto, jeweled high heels. Trust me; you will want to kill yourself after an hour. Not only will people step on you (which they will), you will be walking a lot! If you absolutely must wear the hell-heels, bring a pair of flats to change into.

I know it’s tempting, but try to refrain from wearing rainbow everything. I mean, no one will really blame you, but the veterans will be wearing one or two tastefully selected rainbow pieces,

Go entirely nuts with the gltter, but just know that it won’t come off of you until Winter.

Summer in San Francisco is not usually warm enough for a tiny tutu-pasty combination, but by all means…freeze to death. If you feel like being smart, bring a sweater.

And that’s pretty much it. Get wild, make friends, have a blast, and don’t make the mistake of assuming anyone’s gender. We’ll see you there!

SF Holiday Happenings We Love

At Pro Media we love us some holiday events and happenings, and this time of year is one of our favorites in the city.

From the usual holiday events and must-do’s, to shopping and more, there is never a shortage of things to do this time of year.  So what’s on our agendas this month you ask?

Like all good stories start, this one begins with a drink. Pro Media client (and cocktail hotspot) Blackbird Bar just introduced their Winter Cocktail Menu this month – and it’s not one to miss. Our favorites include the Blackbird Toddy (Single Barrel Bourbon, Earl Grey Syrup), Harvest Moon (Genever, Nocino, Maple, Egg Whites, Pumpkin Butter, Lemon, Angostura Bitters) and the Poached Pear (Pear-Infused Gin, Lambrusco, Honey, Lemon).

Or if you’re into numerous bars and liver failure there’s always SantaConPeople dressed up as Santa for a city-wide bar crawl – what could be more SF?

Or if you’re more of a classic holidays type there is always the SF-born ballet The Nutcracker and ice skating at Union Square and the Embarcadero.

Other events happening in the city right now for a limited time include the oh-so popular and raved about Book of Mormon, showing now thru December 30 (if you were lucky enough to get tickets – it sold out entirely in 90 minutes…the also very popular Lion King is also playing). Or if you’re a Francophile the Legion of Honor is showing Royal Treasures From The Louvre thru March 17.

Whatever brings you joy this holiday season we hope it’s a great one – Happy Holidays to all from Pro Media!

Even Santa’s Got PR Tips

(Written by PR Intern, Kei Vinuya)

Everyone dishes out PR tips on the daily (hence PR Daily), but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to reiterate some I’ve learned while being the new PR intern here at Provocateur Media. I recently read PR Daily’s “6 PR Lessons from Santa Claus” by Joe Vasquez and saw it quite fitting with Christmas finally here!

  1. “Make a list, and check it twice”
    • As the PR intern, I have a lot of list-building tasks. The first and most important lesson I’ve learned is to not send haphazard pitches to an editor or blogger. Reading up on the editor’s title, background, and instructions help me send things out specifically and efficiently.
  2. “Plan, prepare, and deliver”
    • In order to avert any crises or overlapping events, gathering up editorial calendars is a must! And the fun doesn’t stop there! We organize the ones we receive into one master calendar and into little mini ones based on the subject (since we’re a lifestyle PR firm). All this organization helps us get our act together and deliver the results expected (and maybe then some).
  3. “Share everything”
    • Branding our company is sharing our company. I try to help achieve this by maintaining a presence on all of our social media accounts. We’re still working our way up but if you want to see an already successful “shared” company, Kate Spade (although a fashion-related) does a great job at “sharing” their brand.
  4. “Ho! Ho! Ho!”
    • Giving opinions while still being honest and true to our company’s identity is an important value to maintain. We can’t go around criticizing our client’s logos and branding identity if it’s fitting to who they really are, but we can make suggestions that are helpful. I call it, constructive criticism! Just kidding. The whole world calls it that.
  5. “Big rep”
    • Reputation is a big one. It takes a lot of time, patience, money, and, as my boss has told me, like, to not only fulfill client’s expectations, but to also build their reputations. It is hard to manage other’s expectations, let alone your own, but it’s do-able as long as you inform and reassure the client of the entire process.
  6. “Show you care”
    • The community is everything nowadays and hence, connecting clients to it will not only boost their own self-esteem, but the self-esteem of the entire community as well. I haven’t been with our company long enough but I do know that I would like us and our clients to contribute in some way to the Bay Area community that gives back to us, be it through a charity fashion show, benefit wine tasting party, or what-have-you.

NapaStyle and Michael Chiarello on The Nate Berkus Show!

We were thrilled to have our client, NapaStyle and founder (Chef and TV host, Michael Chiarello) appear on The Nate Berkus Show on December 14th. He showcased some of NapaStyle’s most popular products for the holidays, including the Chiara Drink Coolers (always great for large gatherings where cocktails are served :) ), the original Bottega Copper Tumblers, Benavente Marble Server Stand, and the Vintage Silver Fork Cheese Markers as well as Holiday place settings and servingware. Michael had a great segment and even sent an audience of 250 home with gifts. A viewership of approximately 2 million tuned in at home and was treated to a special NATE code for online discounts.

Check out the segment by clicking on the picture above, and head over to NapaStyle to check out everything home and food related. We are looking forward to getting even greater national press in the new year for spring home decor items & bridal gift ideas. Stay tuned!
