With +500 outstanding retailers in the heart of downtown San Francisco, we were honored when Union Square tapped Pro Media to help in expanding their quarterly events and to also help publicize the exciting new developments in the area.  April 3rd was a night to remember as Pro Media teamed up with the Union Square to host their  ‘Spring Fling’ event, held at Union Square’s newest retailer, Vera Wang Bridal.

Held in the new Vera Wang location, replacing the beautiful 4th floor space where Jessica McClintock used to be, 150+ invited VIP’s, local media, and Union Square members came together to experience this exclusive event.

Surrounded with floor to ceiling windows overlooking all of Union Square, the event combined both food and fashion to showcase just a taste of what the District of Union Square has to offer.  Guests had the opportunity to taste delicious dishes provided by Bluestem Brasserie, Gitane, and E & O, while sipping on tasty Bols Genever gin cocktails and chilled Chardonnay provided by Wente Vineyards.

Destination Saratoga!

Last weekend we at Pro Media were very excited to go on our familiarization tour for the kick off of our PR campaign with our new client, Destination Saratoga. Saratoga is actually just one hour south of San Francisco and is the “luxury base camp” for the Santa Cruz Mountains. While on our tour, we were astounded by all of the activities, and also high-quality food and wine offerings. We had been to Saratoga a few times in the past, but on this particular tour, were were able to get an insider’s look at what Saratoga truly has to offer. Take a look at some of the pictures we took and read the captions for more details.

SF Holiday Happenings We Love

At Pro Media we love us some holiday events and happenings, and this time of year is one of our favorites in the city.

From the usual holiday events and must-do’s, to shopping and more, there is never a shortage of things to do this time of year.  So what’s on our agendas this month you ask?

Like all good stories start, this one begins with a drink. Pro Media client (and cocktail hotspot) Blackbird Bar just introduced their Winter Cocktail Menu this month – and it’s not one to miss. Our favorites include the Blackbird Toddy (Single Barrel Bourbon, Earl Grey Syrup), Harvest Moon (Genever, Nocino, Maple, Egg Whites, Pumpkin Butter, Lemon, Angostura Bitters) and the Poached Pear (Pear-Infused Gin, Lambrusco, Honey, Lemon).

Or if you’re into numerous bars and liver failure there’s always SantaConPeople dressed up as Santa for a city-wide bar crawl – what could be more SF?

Or if you’re more of a classic holidays type there is always the SF-born ballet The Nutcracker and ice skating at Union Square and the Embarcadero.

San Francisco Ballet performing “The Nutcracker”

Other events happening in the city right now for a limited time include the oh-so popular and raved about Book of Mormon, showing now thru December 30 (if you were lucky enough to get tickets – it sold out entirely in 90 minutes…the also very popular Lion King is also playing). Or if you’re a Francophile the Legion of Honor is showing Royal Treasures From The Louvre thru March 17.

Whatever brings you joy this holiday season we hope it’s a great one – Happy Holidays to all from Pro Media!

Rock Wall & SHN’s ‘American Idot’ Opening Night, “VIP” After Party

With a slew of great musicals hitting the stages at San Francisco’s  SHN, we are excited to have our client Rock Wall Wine Company participating in the festivities! One of those ‘new’ greats, American Idiot, showing June 12-July 8 at the Orpheum Theatre, will be accompanied by Rock Wall’s Wines for their opening night “VIP after party.” The invite-only after party will take place Wednesday night, June 13th at 9:45, directly after the opening night performance. {We thought the name “Rock Wall” was particularly fitting for a play all about rock music.}

If you aren’t familiar, American Idiot is based off of  Green Day’s album {of the same name} and features hits “Boulevard of Broken Dreams”, “Wake Me Up When September Ends”, “Holiday” and “21 Guns”. Check out a sneak peek of the musical here: American Idiot Montage.

If you have tickets to the opening night of American Idiot, {find tickets HERE if you do not yet} rock out!

Two Guys, One Obsession; Pinot Noir-Approved

For all you wine enthusiasts especially interested in the new wave of winemakers coming up on the horizon, read up on one of our new clients, Joseph Jewell, the reviews on their 2009 Pinot Noir in PinotFile and also their feature in the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

The two self-made wine connoisseurs and their Pinot Noir was recently recognized by the Pinot Prince himself, William Gaffen. However, It was their 2009 Elk Prairie Vineyard Humboldt County Pinot Noir that grabbed his attention and received the PinotGeek grin of approval:

“Mild dusty tannins and well-honed acidity create a beautifully balanced wine that really draws you back to the glass. A perfect marriage of pedigreed vineyard and impeccable winemaking.”

The grin lets everyone know that they’re one to watch not just because they’re “Next-Gen” winemakers, but also because they make Pinot work with what they’ve got. Both Adrian and Micah (32 and 29 years old, respectively) have talent and a whole lot of farmer-meets-chemist knowledge that produces a passion for Pinot that doesn’t go unnoticed! Humboldt County is indeed a very unusual place to source grapes from to make wine, and that is why this particular bottle is so interesting.

Also, acclaimed Wine Editor and Critic, Virginie Boone highlighted their rise to the top in an article she called “Little Wineries On The Rise” in the Santa Rosa Press Democrat. A fun photo of the two here in wine tanks below really showcases their personalities.

(photo courtesy Santa Rosa Press Democrat and Beth Schlanker)

We at Pro Media love representing the bold and passionate trendsetters as they are prime examples of this in the wine industry. Rather than owning and producing in a full-scale winery, they source from vineyards all over Northern California and crush at state-of-the-art Peay Vineyards. Pinot is definitely their passion and it is evident in Gaffen’s reviews and the Press Democrat’s interest. We look forward to helping them share their passion and hope you will share in it as well!

Pro Media: Looking Back on 2011 and Forward to 2012

As the year comes to a close, we like to look over the past year and on to the next. 2011 has been a great year for us at Pro Media and the San Francisco market as well.

We have brought on new employees and consultants in food and wine, fashion as well as technology, and are excited about upcoming opportunities to put our network to use!

Looking to our third year in business, we have a lot of plans in the works and are looking forward to signing new clients in numerous markets and gaining a larger presence in the world of San Francisco PR.

As a business, city and industry we saw a lot of success this year. As the economy slowly grows and the ever-present media booms, companies are looking to PR to spread their message.  The San Francisco lifestyle market also saw a growth in outlets. The SF Chronicle’s Style Section saw a boost in content and one of our own consultants, Lorrain Sanders, was recently brought on at the Chron to work in their Style Department, specifically on Fashion + TechnologyRefinery29’s San Francisco Edition also launched this year and tapped Pro Media friend Katie Hintz to be Editor-in-Chief.

Our clients received great reach this year in national, regional and local media.

The East Bay Vintner’s Alliance was featured on the Huffington Post. Rock Wall Wine Company appeared in Food & Wine Magazine, was included in the December 31, 2011 issue of Wine Spectator as well as SF Chronicle’s Top 100 Wines of 2011 List. NapaStyle founder and Chef Michael Chiarello also did a segment on The Nate Burkus Show!

We continued to work with the local fashion market like the San Francisco Bay Area Fashion Network, who received coverage in the SF Chronicle and San Francisco Magazine.  We also continued to work with great local designers, headed by Joseph Domingo.

We also opened the new San Francisco restaurant Txoko, which received coverage in Sunset Magazine, Virtual Gourmet and Wines & Spirits.  Another successful opening we did was international beauty company Laline, who opened their first U.S store right here in SF!

Pro Media would like to thank everyone who has helped make 2011 such a success and we look forward to working with you, as well as creating many new opportunities and relationships in the coming year!

“The Collection” Heats up SF’s Fashion Scene on August 27th

We are excited to announce The Collection,” presented by The San Francisco Bay Area Fashion Network on August 27th. This premier annual event will be hosted at the luxurious British Motor Car Venue. SFBAFN Founder and renowned Fashion Designer, Joseph Domingo, will oversee the launch of “The Collection” and will bring his wealth of talent and experience to runway as Executive Director and also as one of the featured designers. These will not be short-lived shows, but will feature at least twenty looks of each designer’s most recent work (rumor has it Domingo will even throw in a few swimsuits!)

Daniel Sudar will show at 4pm, Hector Manuel’s Acta Non Verba at 6pm, and Joseph Domingo at 8pm, each with their separate runway locations. All of this fashion bliss will take place under two-story marble pillars, capped with Venetian carved heads, which tower over the venue with the handcrafted wood ceiling and grand chandeliers. Models will begin walking down the impressive stairway and once at the base, continue down a 200+ foot long runway where photographers, media and attendees will have an up-close look at the designer’s creativity and craftsmanship. Tickets can be purchased through the SFBAFN website!

We can hardly wait! Along with gracing our fair city with phenomenal fashion, “The Collection” will also benefit Dress For Success San Francisco, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire. Lorraine Sanders offers a fabulous sneak peek of the event in sfindiefashion! We also look forward to reading more of Domingo’s work in the September fashion issue of 7×7.

Txoko’s “New Wave” of Recognition

We are thrilled to see Txoko Restaurant included on the FRONT page of Sunday’s San Francisco Chronicle! Writers Heather Knight and Paolo Lucchesi justly praise the hard work of Txoko and fellow new North Beach restaurants for their fine establishments and boost to the neighborhood’s improvement. Txoko Co-owners Ryan Maxey and Ian Begg are given special mention in regards to their inspiring optimism and passion for the neighborhood’s revival. Now that’s some SWEET press!

East Bay Vintner’s Alliance on The HuffingtonPost

For almost 2 years now, Pro Media has been working with the East Bay Vintner’s Alliance and we are excited to say that genuine interest in the urban wine scene across the county is growing! Our annual “Passport” event that took place on Saturday, April 2nd and we were quite pleased as a group with the huge rise in attendance.

Local Wine Editor & HuffingtonPost (Food) Contributor, Mary Orlin reports on Passport in her own “Oakland CA, Is Wine Country.” (Orlin is also the Founder The Wine Fashionista.)

When you think of Oakland, the other city by the San Francisco Bay, you probably don’t think of it as wine country.  There aren’t any vineyards, bucolic settings or palatial wine tasting rooms.  Instead, you find a gritty, industrial vibe, one that dares to thumb its nose at traditional wine country.  This is wine country in the city.

Twenty-three wineries now call Oakland and surrounding areas home.  This is more than a trend, not only in Oakland, but around the country. City Winery is in New York City.  Boedecker is in Portland and Henke is in Cincinnati.  While the labels may have appellations from Napa Valley to Long Island to the Willamette Valley, the grapes are brought into a downtown setting to be made into wine.
